Hey! I’m Lo. I’m 28 and navigating being a foster parent. A little background on me: my childhood was dysfunctional and due to years of abuse and neglect, I was placed in foster care at thirteen and adopted right before my sixteenth birthday. I met my now husband when I was sixteen and the rest is history. We got married when I was 20, and since then we have supported each other as we knocked down one goal after the other, continuing to build the life we wanted together. But, a couple years ago, we realized something was missing. After many discussions, we came to the conclusion that we really wanted to be parents. After trying and trying…..and trying some more, it was clear that the natural way just wasn’t working. Six months ago we made the decision to become foster parents. To be honest, I always knew fostering was something I wanted to do. I have been tremendously blessed due to my wonderful parents that were willing to take me in, love me, and accept me as their own, and knowing the number of children in the foster care system, it was a no brainer that I needed, and wanted, to give back to kids that are in the same place I once stood. However, six months ago, it was my husband that prompted this journey. I wanted to be sure it was something he wanted and not me pushing it on him, so I wanted him to take the lead as we went through the licensing process. At the beginning of April, in the midst of all the COVID 19 craziness, we became officially licensed. Fast forward two months and we are a week and a half in to our first placement. I decided to create a blog to have a space to process, share, and vent about my journey being “some kind of mom.” I’m sure it’s going to be the best one yet! Enjoy the ride. 🙂
